Gurgaon-based co claims to have found biodegradable pack

New Delhi: Close the heels of a blanket ban on the use of plastic packaging of tobacco products to the Supreme Court, Gurgaon-based company today claimed it has developed bio-degradable product that could be the answer to all problems of packaging industry in the country.

The company said the product has been developed using natural oils and water-based elastomer, and it has now been replaced by "unfriendly" plastic packaging for a chocolate, gutka, pan masala, Namkeens, small chips and other sweets in India.

Roidec Chemicals India Pvt Ltd, which developed the product, said in a starch-based polyurethane, a chemical plant could even be a cheaper alternative to the production of bio-degradable and water bottles.

The company said the product is certified by the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, Chennai and Indian Institute of Packaging, Mumbai.
